Since the Covid-19 pandemic, international travel has become more complicated with testing and quarantine requirements. If you are travelling from the UK to Italy, make sure that you plan your trip to avoid last-minute rush and stress.

Italy travel advice for those travelling from the UK

The following information is for those travelling to Italy from the UK.

If you are travelling from the UK, you can enter Italy and be exempt from self-isolate if you:

Entry into Italy with required self-isolation (5 days)

If you are unvaccinated, you can enter Italy from the UK if you:

  • fill out the passenger locator form
  • show a negative PCR taken within 48 hours or antigen test taken within 24 hours, prior to entering Italy
  • notify the Prevention Department of the local health authority of your entry intoItaly. See COVID-19 Numeri verdi regionali for the contact details of local Italian health authorities
  • travel to your final destination in Italy by private transport only
  • remain in self-isolation for a total of 5 days
  • take another PCR or antigen test at the end of the 5 days in self-isolation

Italy entry requirement for Children

Children aged 17 and under do not need to quarantine if they are travelling with a fully vaccinated parent and (for those over the age of 6) have a negative PCR or antigen test.

Children aged 5 and under are exempt from testing.

Passenger Locator Form for Italy

You must fill out an online digital form before travelling to Italy. This will generate a QR code that you should show to your travel agent and Border Patrol. If you don't have access to an electronic device, you can fill out a paper form if required.

Is it a requirement to wear a mask in Italy?

All passengers on flights to and from Italy must wear a medical mask, according to Italian airport regulations. If maintaining social distance is impossible, masks should be replaced every 4 hours. Check with your airline about onboard requirements.

UK return covid test from Italy

If you are returning from Italy to the UK, you are required to take a pre-departure PCR or an Antigen test 3 days prior to your departure. The new rules from 4 October 2021 means that fully vaccinated individuals will not be required to take the pre-departure test.

Those who are not fully vaccinated will still need to take the pre-departure test. This can be an antigen test or a PCR test. You can order our antigen test kit online and take it with you on your trip to use as a pre-departure test for your return to the UK.
